"All Better" Outing
After spending almost a week and half avoiding the outside world due to swine flu, the kids were finally starting to feel better.  Not 100%, but their fevers had all broke for the mandatory 24 hours and were no longer contagious so Ken and I decided we needed to get out of the house for some low key fun.  We chose Kiddie Acres, a mini kid carnival full of old fashioned rides.  I hadn’t taken...

Fashion forward
I really hope that Kacey and Kade are not starting a new fashion trend!  I know other mom’s who have told me funny stories about their kids and their clothing choices, and I have seen many of them…princess dresses at the grocery store, crowns and magic wands at storytime, the same outfit everyday for weeks, my nephew wore his clothing inside out and backwards for a while (it was only...

Careful...they bite!
GeeGee had a couple days off work towards the beginning of the month and we decided to take the kids to do something fun.  I found a drive-thru safari in New Braunsfels.  On our way, we stopped for lunch at Cracker Barrel in San Marcos.  Yummmm, their biscuits are the best! Kade waiting for lunch. Kacey with her ginormous lollipop! When you arrive at the Wildlife Ranch, they have food for you...

Behind, again...
October was a very busy month at our house. In addition to the usual fall festivities, birthdays, and Halloween events, we had the displeasure of welcoming H1N1 into our home for a little over a week. Right when I thought I was starting to get caught up again, Kambry came down with a different virus that gave her 103.8 fever for 4 days (no other symptoms…strange). She made a full recovery...

Spooktacular PJ's
I was a little jealous when everyone posted their super cool glow-in-the-dark skeleton pajamas.  When I went to the store to get them, they were gone…so sad!  But then my mom showed up with these super cute ones for the kids!  They don’t glow in the dark, but I think they are adorable!

Hands
Everyone at our house is sick, except me…for now.  At 4:30am I heard a soft cry come from Kade’s room asking for Mama.  When I walked in his room he whispered his request.  ”You lay down me, Mama”.  How could I possibly say no?  I soon realized what had woken him, and got him the medicine he needed in order to drift back to sleep.  It was in those moments between...

Daddy's Day
One Saturday that Kambry was a little under the weather, Ken took Kacey and Kade to Old Settler’s Park (our favorite!) to release the wiggles.  They stumbled upon a motor home show and got to walk through them all.  Ken said some of them were pretty amazing.  Kacey even took her turn at the wheel! They made it over to the park and played and played, then decided to feed the ducks....

The Big Game!
Kacey with Daddy, he was quite the proud dad! Kacey’s first soccer game was a hit!  She had the best time and had quite the audience!  All the grandparents were in attendance too.  I have not laughed that hard in a long time, it was hilarious yet endearing as they would run in the wrong direction, trip, and celebrate when they scored…too cute for words!  Kacey scored 3 or 4 goals.   ...

Peter and the Wolf
A couple Saturday’s ago Kacey and I had a very special Mommy-Daughter date!  We met up with some of her friends and their moms (my friends too) to go see the Austin Ballet perform Peter and the Wolf.  It was a children’s theater version, and the girls were all in heaven!  Afterwards we were able to meet the ballerinas and even snapped a few pictures. Once we were done taking...

Live Music Galore!
We have decided it is time for us to start taking advantage of living in/around the wonderful city of Austin, “The Live Music Capitol of the World”.  On Tuesday Ken and I went to see Jason Mraz, and on Friday we went to see Pat Green.  Yippee!  Two date nights in one week!   We kept Friday simple and didn’t do dinner or anything, just the concert, and no big group, just the two...

What do you do when stuck in traffic?  Yesterday while I was cooking dinner I opened an email from Ken and had this…I hope you enjoy as much as I did!

Jason Mraz Concert
Our relationship with Jason Mraz started way back in 2004. He had his first single on the radio, and we had no children. Yes, it is hard to believe… One random night we were getting dressed to go out, and turned on the TV to see if anything decent was on. We turned to Austin City Limits on PBS and saw he was on. Never had Ken and I seen such an amazing act, we were so entranced we...

Sprinkler Park
Ken and I wanted to do something fun and outdoors with the kids on Labor Day, and since it was back up to the high 90’s, we decided water should also be involved.  After weighing our options, we decided on the Sprinkler Park.  Fun and free, you simply cannot go wrong!  The Daddies, it’s so great when they get to stay home! Kade playing cars as usual!Have I mentioned how much I LOVE...

Pre-K, here she comes!
Kacey had her first day of Pre-K on Thursday.  On Tuesday we had gone and seen her classroom and met her teacher, Ms. Staci.  They are the butterflies!  Kacey thought this was very exciting and exclaimed, “I am in her class because she knows that butterflies are my favorite!”   She had “homework” to turn in when she got to her classroom, a page all about her.  Here are some...

Gig 'Em Aggies
On Saturday Ken went to the Texas A&M football game with Justin’s family and his dad.  Ken had a grand vision of body paint, face paint, and maroon wigs.  Unfortunately, (fortunately?  depends whose side you’re on) his plans didn’t work out, but they did wear the wigs until it got too crazy hot! March In Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band I can’t wait to take the kids...

Baby lock on the fridge?
I was thinking I was pretty fabulous this morning when by 8:15 am had already cleaned one bathroom and was working on the second when Kambry came crawling in and looked like a little vampire baby, purpley red drool dripping out of her mouth…I freaked, washed my hands, grabbed her and ran to the sink to try and figure out what she had in her mouth and clean her up.  Sorry folks, it...

I am now...a soccer mom
Kacey’s first soccer practice was Thursday.  She was soooo excited, it’s all she talked about ALL DAY LONG.  Her coach seems super nice as do the other kids and their parents.  In her age bracket, (4-5 yrs) they play 3 on 3, co-ed and don’t keep score.  I wasn’t expecting there to be boys on her team, but was pretty pleased to see that she could keep up and run circles...

A girl can never have enough shoes!
On Monday my mom and I went shopping to get the kids new shoes.  We had so much fun!  Kade  got new tennis shoes that light up, and Kambry got a pair of pre-walker shoes.  Soooo cute!  Now that she is cruising and standing up, I need to make sure her feet are protected. Kacey and Kade on the carousel at the mall.  GeeGee spoils them!Kambry showing off her new kicks! Kacey however, scored!  She...

New Office
Over 2 years in the making, but the start-up Ken has been working with moved into their new office this week.  Ken has his own office with gorgeous views.  It is quite the drive, 27 miles each way, but it is so nice that they are finally getting off the ground running!  I can’t wait for them to fill up all 3,800 sq. ft with fabulous employees!                               We went on...

Wicked Good Fun
Last Friday Ken and I went to see Wicked.  It was amazing!  We left a little later than planned, but managed to squeeze in our favorite Chinese food, Suzi’s.  Yummy is an understatement, their sesame chicken is unreal!  We walked about a mile to get to the theater, in new shoes…ouch!  But we had great seats, and had a wonderful time together.  We loved it so much, we are ready to see...

Life's a Beach...
Two weekends ago we made a very quick trip to Port Aransas with Justin and Amy’s family.  It was a much needed, too short, but fabulous trip!  We left Friday when Ken got home and made the drive.  The kids were AMAZING in the car, so much so, that our next 5 road trips are probably jinxed!  Because we headed down Friday night, we had all day Saturday on the beach....

What happened to July?
So we went MIA in July, as far as the blog goes. Here a rundown of what we were up to. I don’t have pictures for everything, but… 4th of July weekend. Great time, the 3rd with my side of the fam and the 4th with Ken’s. It was great getting to see everyone! Hanging out with friends.Rook. Love it. Never played? You should. Buy a deck…so fun! Bring It!
Last week Ken and I started P90x. For those who don’t know, it is an intense, hard core, real deal, workout program. The first night was so hard, I was laying on the floor in a fit of giggles over the ridiculousness of it all. The second night, only 20 minutes into the hour long workout, I could hardly move. The best part is that we are already seeing results. I love waking up every...

Change is Good
A while back Ken and I were driving and he looks over at me and says, “I think you would look really good with dark hair.” I looked at him like he had been hit in the head with something very hard and painful. We joked about it, and let it go. Seriously, my hair has been strawberry blonde for as long as I can remember. Brunette? Me? Really? But it got me curious. A week later...

RAIN! It has been a while since we have had any decent rain, so I had a “believe it when I see it” attitude towards the projected 50% chance of showers. Sure enough, the thunder started and about half an hour later it started pouring! We need rain so badly in the area, it is a welcome relief, even if it is short lived. The kids were excited when I told them they could play out in...

What kind are you?
Yesterday at church Kacey had a substitute teacher in her Sunbeam class. The teacher remarked how much Kacey looked like her daddy, and told me about the following comments. Teacher: Wow! Kacey, you look a lot like your daddy. You are definitely a Jackson.Kacey: Yes! We are all Jackson’s at my house! What’s your name?Teacher: Sister Simmons.Kacey: Well, that’s a great name!...

Bowling
Today we took the kids bowling. It was the first time for both of them and they were super excited! Kade wanted to pick up all the balls, and Kacey had a hard time exercising patience while she waited for it to be her turn. It was a lot of fun, and a great way to avoid the crazy 102 degree heat.

Swim Lessons
Kacey told me that this year she really, really wanted to learn how to swim. I told her she had to be willing to put her face down in the water and hold her breath, and we would sign her up for lessons again this year. Twice a week for four weeks we had a pep talk in the car on the way there: face in, straight legs, etc., and this week she completed her lessons and graduated to the next level! Way...

Sitting Pretty
So Kambry has been sitting up by herself for a few weeks now. I realized as I was looking through pictures of her that she is naked in most of them. I am not sure why this is, because she actually has lots of really cute clothes! I will try and take some shots of her dressed so everyone will believe me. Here she is sitting up like a big girl!

Take Me Out to The Ballgame
On Saturday evening we went to a Round Rock Express game. I was so worried it would be nasty hot (it’s hovering around 100 degrees lately), but it turned out to be a great evening! We were able to sit on the lawn in the shade and there was a great breeze! The kids had a blast with their cousins. Here are a few pictures of all the fun. Sad to see them go...
This is Kade and his best little friend Walker. They absolutely love each other. Almost every morning Kade will ask me if he can go to Walker’s house. This Friday, Walker and his equally fabulous family are moving out of state. Luckily, the kids are young enough that they don’t quite get it, but I may find myself getting mushy the next few times Kade asks for his little buddy. We will...

How Big is Kambry? Sooooooo Big!
Kambry had her 6 month well check on Tuesday and the Dr. confirmed what we already knew; that she is a string bean! She is 27 1/2 in. (90%) and 15.7 lbs (25%). While dressing her is a challenge (everything is either too big around her waist or too short in the length) we know she is healthy, happy, and so stinkin’ cute! She is an incredibly happy baby whose smile lights up a room. Mama...

Tiny Dancer
Kacey had her dance recital on Saturday. This year they had a Disney theme, and Kacey’s class did a tap dance to Dumbo’s “When I See an Elephant Fly”. She did a great job and was very animated and knew the whole routine! We were all so proud! I have to find the cable to download the video, but here is a cute picture we took after the performance to tide everyone over!

Mama & the Potty
Funny thing just happened…I am sweeping the kids/guest bathroom and I bump the training potty. It says, “You went potty!” then starts singing. Kade’s room is right by the bathroom, and he is in “quiet time” right now with the door closed (ok, it’s got a baby lock on it). When the potty quit singing, I hear Kade (from his bed) say, “Good job...

Easter, Round 2
The weekend after Easter, my Grandma Pat had everyone over for a BBQ. I had been wanting to take the kids to the Houston Children’s Museum, so we went into town a couple days early. The kids were so excited to go see their Great Grandma and Grandpa. Everyday Kacey asked when we could leave to see them, it was so cute! GeeGee drove with us (so helpful) and on Friday we hit the museum...

8 Things
I was tagged by my friend Jamie http://2003beachbunch.blogspot.com/ to do this post. This is not my usual thing. If it were an email, I would not be doing this, but Jamie, I love ya girlie so here goes! 8 Things I look forward to: 1) Ken coming home everyday. It’s like a big party! The kids scream and run around. Most importantly, the house feels complete. 2) A sweet, quiet moment with the...

Go Rodeo!
About a month ago we went to the carnival that was part of the Austin Rodeo. The kids had a great time! They rode ponies, climbed on tractors, Kacey fed the animals in the petting zoo (it freaked Kade out so he stayed back with Kambry and I), we walked around the Livestock show, and then rode a few rides. Ken and I had gone the night before with our friends Kristin and Del so that we could ride...

Going Green...Sorta
I have started recording Oprah and watching it after the kids go to bed. Sometimes I delete them, but many times they are worth watching. Yesterday was Earth Day, and in true ‘green’ fashion, Oprah’s show was about conservation and all things Earth friendly. I rolled my eyes, but Ken was at the gym and the kids were in bed, so I decided to watch it. I am not a “green”...

Kacey's Easter Dress
Kacey’s Easter dress this year has a little bit of a story attached to it. I LOVE this dress! A very special family friend made this dress 6 or 7 years ago when she was opening a business that specialized in handmade heirloom children’s clothing. She is super talented and makes the most amazing gowns and dresses. This is one of the first dresses she made (for the business) and when...

Easter
We had a wonderful Easter Sunday. The Easter Bunny came through and the kids had a blast opening their baskets. I sooooooo know better...
I love to read other people’s blogs. Last night I was reading some random ladies blog that I found a link to on a friends blog. I start reading and before I know it I am sucked in. It was not the very happy-go-lucky sort of blog, but the very somber-yet-beautiful kind. Next thing I know an hour of my life is gone and I am bawling my eyes out about this very lovely woman’s baby that...

At the Car Wash
(Please note, I am singing the disco fav “Car Wash” in my head while blogging this!) We went and got the car washed last Friday and the kids had the best time. Thanks Dear
Yesterday I was gone most of the day, and when I did get home, I worked in Kambry’s room most of the afternoon. I packed up clothes she has already out grown and organized everything so that it really is her room and doesn’t look like she is just visiting in Kade’s old room. I sent Ken a text around 5pm that said, “Warning! House disaster. I have been working in...

Sweet Berry Farm
On Tuesday we went to Sweet Berry Farm in Marble Falls. It is a pick-your-own strawberry farm. It was the most beautiful day outside! We had a big picnic lunch that no one actually ate (they were too excited), and the kids had fun feeding the horses and goats. The best part was watching them run up and down the rows and rows of strawberries, hunting for just the right one to add to the basket!

Last weekend I was able to go to Houston with my friend Leslie so that we could attend Time Out for Women. We left Friday afternoon and came back Saturday night. I am so grateful I was able to go, and I can’t wait to attend next year! Leslie and I at the end of...

World Famous Round Rock Donuts
If ever there was a guilty pleasure, this has to be one of my favorites! Ken and I LOVE Round Rock Donuts. Their warm, sweet, yellow, fried to perfection goodness cannot be topped. As it turns out, it seems as though we have passed this vice to our kids. Here’s the story… I was on my way to the paint store to buy more paint for Kade’s room and went the long way through Downtown...
